Modernization of a 120,000 sqft, 9-story revivalist building in Gramercy Park. Structural scope included a new elevator and stair core, infill and creation of floor openings in the historic, antiquated terracotta flat-arch slabs, and a complete transformation of the top floor. The existing cast iron columns and ceiling structure at the top floor were removed and replaced with pitched steel frames, opening up the floor to a column-free central room, featuring a new full sized skylight. Hermona led the Silman structural engineering team as Senior Engineer and assistant project manager.
