Open-air wooden structures deployed across the Brooklyn Public Library Branches creating Roadway Reading Rooms, extending vital library services to the public amidst the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In accordance with the New York City Department of Transportation guidelines for the construction of “streeteries”, or outdoor-dining seating, and in close collaboration with the architects, a series of open-air yet protective, inviting outdoor spaces were erected in response to the immediate needs of the Brooklyn community. Hermona led the Silman structural engineering team as Senior Engineer and Project Manager.
